JPI Group Wins National Minority Supplier Development Council’s Supplier of The Year Award

Yom and I are super excited to announce, we have received the NMSDC’s prestigious National Supplier of the Year award!! The JPI Group was awarded this honor due to several factors including, our business growth, operational success, as well as our passion — supporting minority businesses and being involved in the community we serve!

We are so honored and grateful and would like to express Special thanks to:

  • Our family for supporting us along the way!
  • JPI Family – We could not have won this award without our team. Love you all!!
  • Valerie Cofield, EMSDC President
  • EMSDC Council
  • Comcast for our nomination

This moment is truly a dream come true for our family and our business.

We are so incredibly grateful for our team’s commitment as we pivoted during COVID and even added a new service line —  offering on demand recruiting — as part of our mission to provide exceptional service as a premiere recruitment and consulting firm.

However, it has not always been a smooth road for JPI . . .

In fact, in our second year of business we humbly borrowed $5,000 from my mother — just to make payroll. My mother migrated from Jamaica and spent my childhood cleaning Sheraton hotel rooms, supporting our household as a single mother.

Despite of being on the brink of going out of business, in time, we found our way to success (and paid mom back!)

So, when Yom and I tell you we have come a long way to building this multi-million-dollar company, we really mean it.

We are incredibly blessed that we have been able to navigate and continue to thrive in 2020, as we also recognize that COVID-19 shutdowns have devastated black-owned businesses particularly hard.

According to an economic research report, 41 percent of Black-owned businesses have been shuttered by COVID-19, compared to just 17 percent of white-owned businesses.  The virus — compounded with years of systematic racism and economic disparities — has ravaged black businesses.

Despite those statistics, Yom and I still believe that now, more than ever, it is critical to encourage entrepreneurship as a pathway toward economic empowerment.

We highly encourage corporations and organizations to increase their focus on positively impacting MBE owned companies. Your help is needed to support, mentor, and partner with MBE’s.

And as the recipient of this prestigious award, we are making a promise to you that we will continue to do the following.

  1. Hire and provide opportunities to minorities both with our clients and internally here at JPI
  2. Double down in our efforts to support clients who have a passion to embrace hiring more diverse talent
  3. Partner, mentor, coach, develop other MBE firms with the deliberate purpose of helping to facilitate their growth and ability to scale
  4. Increase our speaking engagements with Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)

Afterall —

“We didn’t come this far to only come this far!”

Thank you everyone for your support!!!
